THE STORY OF HACKNEY & CO SO FAR….

Hackney & Co Art & Design studio produces original botanical prints & patterns, created by the internationally renowned and award-winning artist Katy Hackney. Based in the Orkney Isles, North of the Scottish mainland, Katy has two assistants (her cats) which make up the Co in Hackney & Co.

With a long background in Surface Pattern Art & Print Design, and over 20 years experience in the industry, Katy has worked on bespoke designs for Textiles, Fashion, Wallpaper, Homewares, Ceramics and Stationery companies worldwide.

Her past collaborations in the UK include working on designs for John Lewis, Marks & Spencer, Next and the V&A Museum in London. She has had her work featured in Elle Decoration magazine and also won the Ideal Home Show Wallpaper of the Year award in 2014.

Katy set up Hackney & Co to create art and designs, reflecting her love of botanical herbs and wildflowers and the language and folklore behind it. A diverse array of flora can be found in the British Isles, some of which are collected from her own garden or locally foraged from the Scottish countryside. These organic designs are developed in pen and watercolour ink first, producing delicate line work and then layering with watercolours. They are then reworked to form unique prints posters or repeat patterns influenced by traditional botanical illustrations but expressed in a clean and modern way.

Currently Katy has bespoke designs licensed Worldwide for Wallpapers via Milton & King, Paper craft Collections via Craft Consortium and Fabric collections produced via Windham Fabrics.
